The best way to explore Lahemaa’s nature is to set aside enough time, pack comfortable hiking gear, and embark on discovering the local hiking and nature trails. Lahemaa’s trails vary in difficulty and character – from one-to-two-hour bog loops and the 45 km Oandu-Ikla hiking trail to a rocky kilometer leading to Purekkari Cape, the northernmost tip of mainland Estonia. The forests of Käsmu peninsula invite exploration both on foot and by bike. Lahemaa is also traversed by the E11 long-distance hiking trail, whose Baltic section is known as the Forest Hiking Trail, and which begins in the city of Scheveningen in the Netherlands and ends in Tallinn.
For Lahemaa’s hiking trails, we recommend bringing a guide, whom you can find here.
When venturing into nature, always ensure that your impact on the environment is limited to your presence. Sort any packaging and used napkins according to waste management rules. Keep the hiking trails in Lahemaa clean!

The park with large ancient trees is an inseparable part of the manor. Sagadi Park has the thickest European white elm and 33 m oaks, which are some of the tallest in Estonia.
In 1985, a 5.1 hectare dendropark was built on the western side of the manor complex. Alien tree and shrub species have been planted in families, all species have been marked with labels, and there are information stands for those interested. A total of 120 species have been planted in the dendropark.

Esmakordselt on küla nime mainitud 1453. aastal seoses Aaspere mõisale kuulunud Käsmu rannaga.
Head seiklust!
In Ohepalu bog, you can go on a snowshoe hike and pick a different route each time. Once you go a bit further, the bogs of Kõrvemaa will soon be in the walking distance as well.
Linnumäe Nature Farm has eight pairs of snowshoes for rent. You can go on a hike on your own or ask a guide to come with you, however you like. Our hiking trails are free for all!
Snowshoes take you to places in the bog where the boardwalk can’t!
Viru Bog is located 50 kilometers from Tallinn. There is a beautiful pine forest, blue bog lakes, and a lookout tower. We will explore the bog and feel the spongy ground underfoot. We can pick berries if they’re in season. The guide will talk about bog plants, animals, and local lore and explain why bogs are important ecosystems.
The hike includes a guide, snowshoes, waterproof leggings, snacks, and a drink. Come on a snowshoe hike with Wanderlust to experience the charm of the bog away from the boardwalk and learn more about this fascinating landscape!
An experienced guide will take you to explore Põhja-Kõrvemaa’s bog landscape, which is ideal for snowshoeing in winter and bogshoeing during the rest of the year. Hilly terrain alternates with wide-open bogs, and from steep ridges, you can view the lakes. During the hike, you’ll reach the area’s largest bog – Kõnnu Suursoo, characterized by watery ponds and springy hummocks. In the bog, you can also climb observation towers that offer wonderful views of the entire landscape. In winter, you might spot tracks of wolves, foxes, or wild boars.
The snowshoe hike lasts 2–3 hours and covers a distance of 2–8 km, depending on your preference and pace. We meet at the Järvi Pärnjärve campsite, where you will receive your equipment. Then, the journey into car-free nature begins!
If desired, we can hike in the dark – bring a headlamp or borrow one from us. If you want to add even more excitement and fun to the adventure, order a nature bingo game to play.
The service includes snowshoe rental and a guide service, and if needed, we can also provide you with rubber boots.
Have you ever heard true silence in a bog? The bog walk at Koitjärve Bog takes you to views near the bog pools and through different development stages of the bog, where you wouldn’t want to go with regular boots. Koitjärve Bog is known for its quiet, spacious landscape, where the reflections of the pools, sparse pine forests, and open sky create an ideal place for slow wandering and feeling the rhythm of nature.
What do we do on the walk?
- Hike with bog shoes and learn how to walk in the bog so that nature remains a friend
- Stop by the bog pool and explore how bogs form and develop
- Look for traces of animal activity and learn to read the “signs” of the bog
- Examine peat moss and discuss whether peat is a renewable or non-renewable resource
- For the brave, there’s an opportunity for a quick dip in the bog pool if conditions are suitable
Break
We brew tea on site and eat – because everything somehow tastes better in the bog.
Suitable for:
Families, groups of friends, teams (and polite four-legged companions). The walk is family- and pet-friendly.
The Kõnnu Wetlands have a special atmosphere. A lake that rests between eskers in a giant basin has paludified over the course of thousands of years. The surface of this light-filled swamp is densely covered with bog-pools. The beautiful panoramic view to the otherworldly landscape that is ornate with bonsai-like pines can be enjoyed from the top of the lookout tower that has been erected in the middle of the swamp near Lake Paukjärv.
The price includes the hike, snowshoes, poles, and if necessary, leggings, and a guide. At the end of the hike, you can enjoy a picnic, sit around a campfire, and talk about the hike.
Let’s go paddleboarding!
What is it? SUP (Stand Up Paddle in English) is a nice way to discover different bodies of water. A paddle board is one big board, which is about 3 meters long, 80 cm wide, and has a fin under it. We move forward by rowing.
Paddleboarding is suitable for anyone who enjoys water and paddling. It is a great opportunity to discover beautiful nature, enjoy company, and take time off.
With us, you can have an adventure in Tapa on Valgejõgi River in any weather, in any season – the river is always different! Full equipment and instructions are provided by us.
Adventurous activities abound in Hara, both on land and at sea!
Sail along the picturesque coastline, enjoy the beautiful views of Lahemaa, and discover unexplored places. At Hara Harbor, you can explore the surroundings of the submarine base with a row boat, SUP board, or kayak. If desired, you can also take a guided tour, where a guide will lead you along exciting paths and share stories about the area. There are six kayaks, eight SUP boards, and five rowboats available. Additionally, you have the opportunity to come with your own watercraft – whether it’s a SUP board or kayak – and explore the mysterious territory of the Hara submarine base at your own pace.
Are you staying in a harbor, have you returned from a boat trip, or are you simply looking for an idyllic seaside spot to organize a campfire or barbecue? We offer you a cozy campfire site with everything you need. If desired, there is also a camping option to make your seaside adventure last even longer.
At Valkla Beach, you have the opportunity to rent up to five paddleboards at once to enjoy the calming waves of the sea and engage in sporty activities. Before entering the water, the instructor provides a thorough on-land guide on how to paddle safely and comfortably.
The Aztron Eclipse 10.6 board features a soft top and a full plate, ensuring stability and lightness, making it ideal for beginners. The round shape allows easy steering of the board, and the soft surface makes falls safe.
Paddle boarding is relaxing while also being a workout, as maintaining balance engages multiple muscle groups simultaneously. Additionally, it offers a great opportunity to spend quality time with children – they can safely ride with their parents, enjoy a water adventure, and learn balance. For children, the experience is exciting and playful; while for parents, it is a calming way to step away from everyday life.
The board’s carrying capacity is 110 kg, and on-site, there are two children’s and four adult life vests available, ensuring the whole family can safely enjoy the water.
Eesti Vabariigi 100. sünnipäeva tähistamiseks rajatud tammepark.
Pargi rajamist Tamsalus Paide maantee äärde alustati 2017. aastal. Istutati 100 noort 3-4 meetri kõrgust tammepuud. Tammede ümber paigaldati raudbetoonvööd, mille ülemistele kaldpindadele on süvistatud 100 Eesti vanasõna. 10 tamme ümber on ehitatud ümmargused istepingid. Pargis on jalgteed koos valgustusega.
Tammepark laiub Tamsalu lääneosas Kukelossi ümber. Kukelossi nime all tuntud tsaariaegse hoone müürid on konserveeritud ja viimistletud. Müüride vahele on ülesseatud lubjatööstuse ajalugu tutvustav ekspositsioon.
The diverse 18-basket disc golf park, which is quite challenging, is located on the Tamsalu health trails. There are mandos, complex ob-areas, open drives longer than 150 metres, and narrow 70-metre forest trails.
You can rent discs from the Tamsalu Sports Centre (three hours costs 2 euros). The park is open 24 hours and if you have your own discs, you can play for free.
Come and test the park!
When snow covers the land, cross-country ski trails will be waiting for you near the Tamsalu Sports Complex. You can ski on trails with different lengths and the 4 km trail is lighted until 21.00. Useful information: see our homepage for more detailed information about the trails and snow.
Tamsalu Sports Complex also has washing facilities, sauna, pool and gym. There’s also a hostel and café.
Tule Tapale sportima!
Come and discover Lahemaa and its pristine nature, manor buildings, and seaside villages.
The day trip follows the tracks of the most beautiful places in Estonia. We will hike in Viru Bog and immerse ourselves in North Estonia’s landscape. We will stop at Jägala Waterfall, the largest natural waterfall in Estonia, which is a particularly powerful sight in summer and when it’s frozen in winter.
We will visit the historic Sagadi Manor complex, where you will get an idea of Estonia’s manor life. Then we head to the fishing village of Altja, where the atmosphere of the real Estonian beach village awaits us. We take a lunch break at the local tavern (lunch is not included in the price).
The tour includes transportation and a guide service.
Tsitre, located in Lahemaa National Park, is a historical site. As late as the middle of the last century, many buildings of the famous summer estate of Tsitre were still standing, and a large manor complex was located here – mansions, servants’ houses, stables, rose gardens, paths, alleys, a bowling alley, bathing houses and a passenger port. Now time and nature have done their job. The Tsitre Tree Trail runs through the former manor park, introducing the remaining trees. The oldest pine trees may be up to 300 years old, and the horse chestnuts over 120 years old. From the observation tower, you can admire Kolga Bay.
There are also several rest areas along the trail with benches and tables, barbecues, and camping sites.
The large oak is located on a hillock, close to the Tülivere brook. The giant tree features a unique gap similar to an arched door where a person can enter, almost without having to bend down. The dim interior of the tree’s cavity is the size of a tiny chamber, allowing two adults to stand up within.
The oak is located on private land, so it can only be visited during the daytime.
